Mona Simpson, Jane Ziegelman
FICTION
Mona Simpson (nella foto), My Hollywood (Knopf). It takes quite a while, however, for Ms. Simpson to hit her stride, and she seems uncertain at first whether she is writing a social satire, a comedy of manners or a character study. In fact, the novel's early scenes comparing and contrasting the lives of spoiled young Hollywood yuppies and the lives of their frugal, hard-working nannies often feel like a stilted school exercise..." Michiko Kakutani, nyt.

Le ultime parole famose
Robert K. Elder, Last Words of the Executed (University of Chicago Press). "Why last words? ... Last words were the most riveting, and after a little digging I was appalled to find no modern study of last words. My curiosity was: If these are the most dangerous, outcast members of society, why does it remain a cultural value to record what they say? And what can we learn from them?". newyorker.

Aleksandar Hemon, Il progetto Lazarus
Aleksandar Hemon, Il progetto Lazarus (Einaudi).
